“Anxiety ain’t fun” may be poor grammar, but it absolutely expresses the sentiments of every person who has struggled with anxiety! And we know that it’s one of the highest search topics of various search engines annually, indicating that people are looking (and many are looking desperately) for answers.
I did my own search, and found a plethora of info out there on the web. Interestingly enough, there were few suggestions of dealing with anxiety beyond medication. Of course, there are times when medication for anxiety might be necessary for a period of time. That is certainly something to discuss with your physician.
Anxiety can be debilitating, and it certainly interferes with an extraordinary life!
You know by now that I believe everyone can have an extraordinary life. I have devoted my career as a psychotherapist, counselor, and Executive Life & Business Coach to helping individuals, couples, families, businesses, churches and other organizations tap into extraordinary!
You might be asking … HOW? How do I manage or conquer anxiety so that I can have it too! I want you to know I have your back, and I want you to live stress and anxiety free!
So … I have seven recommendations I’d like to make for you to consider. Many times, just adopting one or two of them brings significant relief. I like to create acrostics so that in a “moment of panic” (yes, the pun was intentional!), you can remember some things that might help! As a gal who has struggled intensely with anxiety, and who has researched it and practiced every suggestion I could find … I believe, with all my heart, that you can take anxiety and FLIP IT!
F – FOCUS! FULL OF WHAT?
What are you focusing on? Whatever you are focusing on is what you are full of! CHANGE YOUR FOCUS! DO NOT FOCUS ON YOUR ANXIETY!
L – LOST AT SEA – DRIFTING!
One of the most surprising contributors to anxiety is indecisiveness. Make some decisions! Even wrong decisions relieve some anxiety! (But you’ll make good ones! I know you will!)
I – IMAGINATION!
We all came out of the womb with vivid imaginations! Remember lying in the grass and imagination shapes in the clouds? Anxiety captures our imagination and turns it into thinking the worst. Recapture you imagination and have fun with it!
P – PLEASING OTHERS AND GIVING UP OUR REINS!
One of the huge ways we create anxiety is by trying to please others. Not only does it require Mind Reading 101 (which 100% of us failed!), but it also places the reins of our lives in the hands of those we are trying to please.
I – ISOLATION!
Did you ever think about the word ANXIOUS or ANXIETY. What is the center of both words? “I!” If we allow ourselves to isolate, we place ourselves in the middle of anxiety! Find healthy, functional folks to spend time with.
T – TORNADO!
If anxiety comes on you like a tornado, you sincerely try all of the above, and the battle still rages, you may be struggling with “carried fear.” It makes no sense when it occurs, and pops up randomly. You can dump the fear you carry for someone else. And many carry it for many years … at a great price to yourself!
! – EXTRAORDINARY
That’s who you are! No matter what you’ve done or not done! It’s who you are, and it’s the kind of life you were meant to have! But to calm our hearts, we must develop patterns, habits or rituals that set our hearts at peace.
Each of these have the power to calm the raging storm of anxiety. I know they are briefly stated. If you would like more details on “how to” do each step, you may download my FREE report on “How to FLIP Anxiety OUT … Instead of Allowing Anxiety to FLIP YOU OUT!”
